Accounting and Finance

Abstract

This master programme follows a bachelor's degree in management, business administration or economics and provides an in-depth education in the field of accounting and financial management. The programme is very flexible and can be adapted to align with individual career goals. In particular, the modular structure of the study programme allows students to personalise their curriculum to place more emphasis on either Accounting and Control or Finance. The programme is also completed with courses offered in the module «Data Analytics» and/or in the field of «Audit and Tax». Classes may also be chosen in Bern or Neuchâtel under the BENEFRI convention. In addition, the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Fribourg together with the University of Caen Normandie in France provides the option for selected students to add a double degree programme leading to the award of two university master's degrees.

    Profile of the study programme

    This master programme provides in-depth education in the field of accounting and financial management. Students must choose the majority of their courses from the following core modules:

    • Accounting and Control
    • Finance

    The programme is completed with courses in the fields of Data Analytics and/or Audit and Tax.
    The final master thesis is an individual research project at the end of the programme that is designed for students to apply their knowledge acquired throughout their studies.

    Fribourg profile
    The modular structure of the study programme allows students to personalise their curriculum and demonstrate the skills they have acquired. Students can focus on the Accounting and Control or the Finance module, depending on their interests.
    Within the framework of the BeNeFri agreement, courses can also be attended at the Universities of Bern and Neuchâtel.
    In addition, the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Fribourg together with the University of Caen Normandie in France provides the option for selected students to add a double degree programme leading to the award of two university master's degrees. The first year of study is completed in Fribourg and the second year in Caen. The second semester of the study year in Caen consists of a six-month internship in a company, in the context of which the master's thesis is written. On both diplomas it is mentioned that the student is awarded a double degree.

Curriculum

Admission

Master's degree programmes are built on the knowledge and abilities that were acquired when obtaining a bachelor's degree.

Holders of a bachelor's degree awarded by a Swiss university are admitted to a master's degree programme without any preconditions if they have earned 60 or 90 ECTS credits – depending on the chosen master's degree programme – within the corresponding discipline. However, additional requirements can be required. The same applies to holders of a bachelor's degree awarded by a foreign university, provided that the bachelor's degree is recognised and considered equivalent by the University of Fribourg.

Holders of a bachelor's degree awarded by a Swiss or a foreign university, provided that the bachelor's degree is recognised and considered equivalent by the University of Fribourg, who do not fulfil this condition can be admitted to a master's degree programme with preconditions (which must be successfully completed before starting the master's degree programme) and/or additional requirements (which can be completed during the master's degree programme). The preconditions and/or additional requirements may not exceed 60 ECTS credits in total. The same applies to holders of a bachelor's degree awarded by a Swiss university of applied sciences, according to existing agreements.

Candidates who have completed their bachelor studies outside of the EU or the EFTA and who wish to apply to this study programme must add a copy of the GMAT examination results to their application for admission (https://www.mba.com/global).
